Multiple Platform Truck Scales
Multiple Ways of Finding an Axle Weight
While there are many ways to determine the axle weight of a tractor trailer, some, of course, are more ideal than others.

Using a standard truck scale, axle weight may be determined by first stopping the truck with only the front axle on the scale. The scale operator records the weight and presses TARE on the indicator. The driver then pulls the truck forward so that the drive axle is on the scale. The weight is recorded and the operator presses TARE. The truck is finally driven completely on the scale and the final weight is recorded. This method can be quite time consuming and subject to operator error.

Another method is to use a single module axle scale and weigh one axle at a time. Cardinal manufactures several different scales that can accomplish this. This method is not “legal for trade,” but does give a reasonably accurate weight for each axle.

Efficient Axle Weighing
The most ideal method, then, is to have a platform the truck can be driven completely onto with independent weighing modules for each axle. This provides for quick, accurate readings which can be certified for “legal for trade” applications.

Cardinal can manufacture any of their truck scale models in multi-platform configurations,
which can weigh multiple axles all in one weighment, allowing the operator to quickly and reliably generate not only “legal-for-trade” gross, tare, and net weights, but also accurate steering, drive and tandem axle weights on
every vehicle.

Cardinal is not restricted by pre-configured size specifications, which many other scale companies use, but can custom-build any of their truck scales to meet your specific requirements while maintaining a very competitive price. Cardinal low-profile above ground and pit-type truck scales are available in 10, 11 and 12 foot widths and can be customized to any length and width the customer desires.

Peripheral Equipment Finishes the Task
Cardinal’s model 777 and 788 indicators are fully programmable and excellent for use with axle weighing systems. These indicators include versatile standard software meeting the requirements of most axle weighing applications. However, should you require specialized application software, your Cardinal dealer can provide software so that your 700 series indicator functions to meet your exact needs.

The large display of the 700 series indicators capture and display all three axle weights plus gross total weights simultaneously. These weights can then be sent automatically to a printer or PC, depending on your application. You can also store and retrieve the data and print transactions and other reports from the selected data.

Accurate and speedy axle weighing can mean dollars saved in the long run. Contact a Cardinal representative to let us know about your multi-platform weighing needs and to configure a multi-platform truck scale for your specific requirement.
